Okay so it smells fishy at this point. Why? Some reasons, or so called "red flags", in no particular order:
There's also a great tool for visiting the past. Its called the way back machine. You can use it, give it a go. Try WG website for the sake of fun - See it in 2002 and maybe ahh say, 2011. What, Godaddy? This means the website has been down for a while there. Hmm. Also the past websites indicate that the company is in Vancouver. Now its in Paris and Tokyo.
This makes me think about the possibility of someone hijacking a "used to be" financial company website, setting up a new company and operating on the same field. Its easy, really, if you know how to. Then you just gather a bunch of people, set up a scheme to exploit and rip people off. I'm not saying WG is about this - I cannot know, but the possibility is there and the amount of red flags floating around is shocking.
Next day I received the call from WG staff member and directly confronted him with my concerns about their company. That I don't know anything about them and I can't trust my money with someone I don't know. He understood and tried to explain to me that they're legit, but how can I really know unless I visit them? See their systems in more depth than the website they have up and the numerous linkback sites etc. I no give credit!
We talked over an hour and I did gain some trust in to WG and agreed that if they can come down to 1/5 of the initial investiment sum they're offering, I might be willing to risk it. They weren't about to come down, so we ended up parting our ways. I'm still not 100% confirmed that WG is an elaborate scheme to rip people off. I do think they might be real. But I'm thinking its only "likely" they're legit. As in 75% sure. As a backup measure I did spend the sum I was willing to let them have and bought a little piece CTIX directly for myself. If it rockets early next year, its a sure sign that WG is legit and I should've gone with them in the first place.
Now, don't get me wrong. I didn't write this post as a mock of WG - I may have indeed missed my "opportunity of a lifetime" with them - afterall CTIX is getting BUY recommendations from various analysts (at the time of writing which is 15. nov. 2013) My point is that I was offered a little bit too good to be true deal right from the start. Here's a company that should definately do something about their visibility in the Internet if they want new customers from my generation.
I did receive one final call from WG a few days later. Caller was manager of the person who tried to get me in their wagon earlier. He too was very calm and professional and spoke with perfect, soft british accent. I might miss an opportunity once in a while, but I've been BS'd one too many times to trust people I don't really know. And, I have those CTIX stocks now anyway. Lets see what happens.
Here ends this series of posts. I might resume on this subject during or after 1st quarter of 2014 if what WG told me comes to be true, in which case all these posts just indicate that I might be a little paranoid.
- Email sender is admin@
- Website makes my nerdsense tingle
- No workers in LinkedIn
- LinkedIn page very poor
- Offer too good to be true (low risk, high return, short time)
- Lots of sites all containing the same copy & link backs to their website
- No real discussion about this company to be found (in reliable sources)
- Confirmed, real investiment banker whom I have met, was wary of them
- Email communication doesn't live up to expectations
